Nine Saint Gillian Street.

Luke picked up Misty’s truck at headquarters and rushed home with the bag of items Mrs. Maisonnat provided. He tore into the house through the back door and set the dogs to barking.

“What is it?” asked Misty. “Why are you running?”

The long work table in the kitchen was covered in fabric and stuffing and half-finished green dolls.

“Twin boys were taken from their soccer practice, and their disappearance will constitute a high profile media case. Lieutenant White is getting pressure from his superiors. He needs to find the kids as quickly as possible.”

“I see you have a bag,” said Misty. “Am I helping with this emergency?”

“If you would, Misty. It would help a great deal.”

“Angelique, ma cher, would you get the front parlor ready? We’ll work in there. The four of us will work on it right away.”

“Thanks,” said Luke. “I can see that y’all are busy.”

“Trying to help you in another case,” said Misty, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

She’s right. I asked for her help, so why am I pissed?

“I’ll put this bag in the front parlor on my way upstairs. I have to read the file.”

“Twin boys?” asked Claire. “This should be interesting.”

“How old are the boys?” Misty called after Luke.

“Eight,” hollered Luke from the top of the stairs.
